Fans of the BRUGGGORE Horror Double Fearture Lunch Cinema Extravaganza already know it. At least once a season, there are two classic films that certainly do not deserve the term “classics” and can hardly be called “films” at all. So that would be this double. CHOPPING MALL and HARDWARE (aka M.A.R.K.13). Let the robot trashing begin!

Super-modern robots see that everything's OK in a shopping center in CHOPPING MALL (1986). Burglars no longer have a chance — neither do shopping center employees. After a malfunction, the robots start to hunt down anything that moves on two legs. But as we already know from DAWN OF THE DEAD, there are many ways to defend yourself in a shopping center. The human battle against artificial intelligence can begin.

Somewhere between cyberpunk, slasher and post-apocalypse, you can place HARDWARE (1990), which was also known in this country as M.A.R.K.13. A scrap collector finds the head of a Mark 13 (oh that's why) robot. The junkhead somehow ends up at home with an artist, where it suddenly comes to life and reassembles itself from lying around metal parts. He then starts doing what he was programmed to do. Assassinate people. In an astonishing number of countries, HARDWARE has not made it onto video cassettes at all or only heavily edited. Perhaps that has created a certain cult factor. We'll let you decide. In any case, it is the last Double Fearture before the BRUGGGORE Filmfestival enters its sixth round from April 21 to 25, 2026. A bit of biting through is therefore not unreasonable.
