Luca is a successful Neapolitan cigarette smuggler and ships goods to Italy. When he refuses an order to smuggle heroin, the maritime police are suddenly hanging at the stern of his boats. Luca realizes that there must be a traitor in his ranks. The situation escalates until neither Luca nor his loved ones are safe and a bloody mafia war for money and power ensues.
Lucio Fulci is an integral part of the horror genre and so far there has been no BRUGGGORE film festival without a film by him. This time, however, we have unearthed a very special trouvaille. Even before The Master turned to horror, he made a hard-hitting mafia action movie with CONTRABAND (aka LUCA IL CONTRABBANDIERE aka DAS SYNDIKAT DES GRAUENS). At the height of the police-movie-wave, when gangster, police and mafia films were particularly popular in Italy, he too dedicated himself to organized crime. Not without the typical handwriting, of course. Bloody shootouts, nonsensical dialogue and explicit depictions of violence. Who else has the VHS at home?
