During a romantic weekend in a tree hut, Ale has to watch her boyfriend Jesús fall to his death. She returns a year later, grieving, traumatizing and firmly convinced that Jesús' death was not an accident. Something must be hiding in this forest and should now be held accountable.
With LA CASA EN EL ÁRBOL (THE TREEHOUSE), Spanish director Luis Calderón demonstrates how independent filmmaking works. Outside the usual film funding landscape in Spain, he produces a visually impressive work and incorporates many personal elements into it. It is not only his love for the slasher film that stands out, but also important human topics relating to trauma and gender identity. He earned his first featured film hard with music videos and advertising productions and is responsible for writing, directing and producing. It's great that, after a successful international festival tour, the film is now also part of the BRUGGGORE Filmfestival official competition.
