Doug lives in Florida, sincerely likes drugs, is estranged from his daughter, has just lost his job and has no desire for life anymore. When he wants to put an end to this on the open sea, he finds an injured mermaid. He takes them home and falls in love... but unfortunately there is still a merman and a variety of other problems.
Anyone familiar with Tyler Cornack's other works BUTT BOY (2019) or TINY CINEMA (2022) can roughly estimate what score MERMAID is hitting. The humor is hearty, the story absurd, the characters weird and exaggerated. With Johnny Pemberton, Kevin Dunn and “T-1000” Robert Patrick, he brings together his most well-known cast to date and that pays off. Anyone who likes unpleasant moments in life will be rewarded with wonderful situational comedy, played brilliantly and staged in style as usual. Who hasn't wanted to see a mermaid singing at a child's birthday party?
