Season Special: We Are Not Doomed. Yet!
In a desert, “undesirables” are banished behind fences to a post-apocalyptic no man's land, brutally ostracized and left to themselves in a lawless space. This fate also affects Arlen, a young woman who will soon be missing an arm and a leg.
THE BAD BATCH depicts a world after the collapse of capitalism, in which the laws of the market were replaced by cannibalism. In this system, people and their workers are no longer a production factor, but a resource: food for those who are endowed with even more muscle power. Resistance becomes a necessity for survival in order to be able to retain a remnant of dignity and humanity in a state of emergency.
Anyone who stands up against the powerful is publicly defamed. Democratic principles are being undermined more and more. Flowery words such as “remigration” are used to disguise racism. Ana Lily Amirpour does not address all of this in THE BAD BATCH. But it shows us what we could be heading for if we don't defend our right to free speech — the right to be noncompliant. Where would we be banished in a system that allows no objection? Would we too suddenly have to defend ourselves against cannibals and self-empowered cult leaders? Fight back today rather than tomorrow — because then it could be too late.
