When you come across strange dolls hanging in the trees while hiking in the remote forest, you know that the day can only really suck. That's how a hiking couple feels. As expected, after finding the doll, an oversized child-like something with a ceramic doll face appears — and it's finished with forest idyll and romantic togetherness.
DOLLY offers just about everything you'd expect from a hillbilly slasher, and with some effects, your jaw stays open (hehehe). Protagonist Macy, played by Fabianne Therese, who we know from JOHN DIES AT THE END (2012) and SOUTHBOUND (2015), must indulge in the deviant fantasies of Dolly (played to fear by Max the Impaler) in order to survive and find a way out of misery. Based on his short film BABYGIRL (2022), Rod Blackhurst shoots in the best Grindhouse style on 16mm, which gives the film a particularly dirty look.
